Thomasville-- Wyndom Ridge Condominiums is a quiet complex with just a few residents, but nearly all were outside Sunday afternoon when police responded to a 911 call. "Upon arrival, officers made contact with several subjects outside pointing to a man that was standing over there that was very irate," says Thomasville Police Detective Scott Newberry.
He says 39-year-old William Weathersby told officers he assaulted his mother inside the apartment they shared. "He stated that he was just upset and lost control," Newberry explains.
Officers found the 58-year-old woman inside the apartment, breathing but unconscious. She was taken to Archbold hospital with severe injuries mainly to her face where police say Weathersby kicked and hit her until she was knocked out.
"I talked to her Monday, she was still in intensive care. She's coming along. She hopes that her son gets the help that he needs because she's real concerned about him at this time," says Newberry. Detectives say she should fully recover from the beating.
Her son remains in the Thomas county jail. In addition to charges of aggravated battery and criminal trespass, Weathersby faces one charge of cruelty to children because a thirteen-year-old relative was in the apartment at the time.
