Albany -- The accident happened around 7:00 AM on the Liberty Expressway between the Slappey and Westover exits.
Police say the victim is a 57-year-old white woman. Right now, they're not releasing her name until her next of kin is notified.
Investigators are saying that the woman was struck by an SUV and commercial vehicle and died instantly.
Officers prevented traffic on Nottingham Way and Westover Boulevard from entering the Liberty Expressway.
Traffic was bumper to bumper for drivers who were able to enter the bypass from Slappey Boulevard.
Police say they don't know why the woman was walking on the bypass so early in the morning but they are still investigating.
