Terrell County --  A warning to farmers in Terrell and surrounding counties: check your irrigation system.

The Terrell County Sheriff's office is questioning four men they say have been stripping copper wire from at least one irrigation system in Terrell County.

Sheriff John Bowens fears other farmers may also be a victim and may not know it because they haven't been in their fields recently.

"We're just asking all farmers to please check their irrigation systems and if anyone has a problem with them to give us a call," Bowens said.

Acting on a tip Bowens received, he called Dougherty County investigators Thursday morning who met a car at Southeastern Aluminum Recycling in Albany.

Four men were taken into custody and are at the sheriff's office now.

More than a thousand feet of copper wire was seized from their car that was stripped from irrigation systems.
