Homeless men arrested in filthy vacant building

January 22, 2008

Albany -- Four homeless men were arrested Monday inside the old Pritchett Ford Building on North Slappey where Police say they'd been living for several days in deplorable conditions.

An officer on patrol saw a man inside the building which has been vacant and for sale for many years. The officer said the human waste and garbage on the floor was so bad that he almost vomited.

The building's owner told officers he hadn't checked on the building in two years and was unaware vagrants had moved in.

The four men are charged with criminal trespass. Neighbors say they've seen more homeless people around the vacant building since the weather that cold.
