Tifton -- Katie Day won a million dollars playing the Goegia Lottery's "$300 Million Gold Rush" scratch-off game. But she doesn't plan to quit her job and says the money won't change her much.
Even without the money, her life is about to change in a big way.
Katie Day got a check for one million dollars. "Whenever I scratched that off, I could not believe it. I still can't believe it!"
She's been playing scratch-offs as long as she can remember, but never once thought she would get so lucky at the Tifton Quick Stop. "I scratched of three numbers and under number seven it was ... 'One million' and I couldn't believe it."
"I had to sit down, she had to sit down, everybody sat down."
"More or less I envy her, because I scratch off just as much as she does," said her brother, Johnny Walker.
Katie's spent years working as a server at this Holiday Inn and she also cleaned houses to make ends meet. Something she says won't change now that she's hit the jackpot. "People say 'I can't believe you are still cleaning,' and I say 'well its what I do.' I've done it for 15 years, and its just not my nature to just stay at home."
"It just gives you options to... it just gives you options. I know its going to be different. It's different in a lot of ways, you just have a lot of options. Its just according to what you do with it," she said.
Day and her fiance will get married Saturday, a wedding she's been planning the past year, and this money is just the icing on her wedding cake. "I've been blessed and I'm still blessed. It's a blessing but you just have to go with the flow, cause I got everything I need, we have everything we need."
And now Tifton will be home to maybe the only millionaire who still cleans homes for a living.
Katie Day plans to use the money to make a few renovations on her home and take long nice vacation. She plans to save the rest.
