Albany -- A South Albany woman dies from burns she suffered early Sunday morning when her home was destroyed by fire.

37 year old Sandra Subry was found in the back bedroom of this house in the 400 block of West Whitney Avenue a little before 5 AM Sunday. She died at 4 Sunday afternoon at the Still Burn Center in Augusta.

Firefighters say Subry was sleeping in a back bedroom, and managed to go into another bedroom before collapsing.

A second woman in the house, 45 year old Debra Mitchell, escaped from the fire, suffering minor burns and smoke inhalation. She was found by firefighters standing on the home's front porch in freezing temperatures.

Investigators say the fire started in a heating unit in the kitchen.

Subry is the first fatal fire victim in Albany in 2008.
