Four charged in beating of Americus man

Americus-  An Americus man is in critical condition after he was beaten with a shotgun during an armed robbery.

Americus Police say Ricky Goober's neck was broken after he was attacked Thursday night near the intersection of Cherokee and Hanson Drive.

Acting on information, police and sheriff's deputies surrounded a house in the Housing Authority Development Friday morning. During an hour and a half standoff, the nearby Cherokee Elementary School was placed on lock down as a precaution.

Sumter County Sheriff's investigators say Kendrick Davis, Paul Sampson, Erick Sampson and Jamaine Thomas will be charged with theft by receiving, because the shotgun used was stolen in a burglary a year ago. Additional charges are still being considered.
