Albany woman scammed out of thousands of dollars

January 16, 2008

Albany -- Police are looking for two women who scammed an Albany woman out of thousands of dollars Saturday.

64-year old Bernice Jones told Police she was shopping at this Dollar General on West Broad Avenue when a woman showed her a large wad of money wrapped in a rubber band. The woman said she found the money and offered to split it with Jones and another woman if they put up $2500 in front money.

Jones went to her bank, withdrew the money, and gave it to the two women. The women left together, saying they were getting the rest of the money, but never returned.

Police say this is an old con, but victims continue to fall for it. They warn you that if a stranger offers you a deal too good to be true,it probably is a scam.
