Dawson -- Police lights lit up a stretch of First Avenue in Dawson Saturday night. It was inside this home at 867 1st Avenue where investigators say Luscious Buchanan Jr. was discovered dead by family members.

"I was shocked. I was shocked," said Buchanan's long-time friend Lawrence Hylick.

Hylick was like many who surrounded Buchanan's house, still in disbelief that someone would do harm to an elderly man.

"He was a super nice guy. He went to church. He was swell in this neighborhood and I worked with him about 20 or 25 years," he said.

Gathered behind police tape, stunned family members could only watch as investigators from the GBI Crime Scene Unit worked into the night gathering evidence from inside the home.

Authorities say they believe someone shot Buchanan to death sometime between Friday night and early Saturday morning. So far, there is no clear motive.

"It is scary because I live like right down the street. It's very scary," said a young neighbor.

With a neighborhood obviously concerned and a family now in mourning. Police are hopeful that someone will come forward with information that will lead them to a killer.

The GBI says that Buchanan's body was taken to the crime lab in Atlanta for an autopsy.  Police urge anyone with information to contact them about the case.
