Albany - A group of community hospitals is suing the State Board of Community Health. The suit challenges a rule approved December 13th by the board that reclassified general surgeons.
That rule essentially allows general surgeons to set up ambulatory surgery centers without going through Georgia's certificate-of-need process. The 59-hospital alliance says the Legislature reserves the right to decide whether to reclassify general surgery as a single specialty, not the Board of community health.
