Albany -- New Year's is a time for celebration for most people, but for others it is one big temptation.

New Year's Eve can be one of the biggest challenges for someone recovering from alcohol addiction.

Monday night is best known for excessive drinking, and this environment can be extremely hostile for recovering addicts.

"It's a very tough time. And I think the best thing a person can do, if they have made that commitment that they want to stay sober, is to identify some of those problems that are going to come up, those parties, those activities. And plan ahead and have some alternative activities," said Manager of Psychiatric Inpatient, Garnie Mitchell.

Any recovering alcoholic who may need some extra support tonight can call the 24-hour addiction help line at 1-800-559-9503.
