Ernest Howard Bond of Albany died Thursday December 27, 2007 at Palmyra Medical Center.
Funeral service was held at 3:30 PM Saturday at Porterfield Memorial United Methodist Church with interment following in Floral Memory Gardens with military honors. Rev. Doug Burrell, Rev. Nancy Scarbrough and Mr. Sherman Willis officiated.
A native of Pelham, GA, Mr. Bond graduated from Ochlocknee High School in 1937, where he was a member of the state champion basket team and a member of the pole vault team. Following graduation, Mr. Bond started Roddenberry Hardware in Cairo and moved to Albany in 1939 to work for Albany Hardware. In later years Mr. Bond became president of Albany Hardware and was an active member of Albany Rotary Club where served as president from 1986-1987. He was an active member of Porterfield Memorial United Methodist ! Church< /st1:PlaceType>, where he served as chairman of the administrative board, and trustee of the church. Mr. Bond was on the board of the Anchorage and the Dougherty County School Board. Mr. Bond was a retired major from the Albany National Guard.
Survivors include 2 sons, Ernie Bond and his wife Linda of Marietta, Herbert Bond and his wife Dorrie of Athens, daughter, Diane Burrell and her husband Doug of Fayetteville; grandchildren, Dawson Bond and his wife Emmy of Alpharetta, Sarah Bond of Marietta, Jessica Bond and Taylor Bond both of Athens, Mary Ann Burrell and David Burrell both of Fayetteville; great-grandson, Anderson Bond; sister, Inez Thweatt of Albany.
Mr. Bond was preceded in death by his wives Ethel Boggs Bond and Verna M. Bond.
