Trojans getting defensive

December 26, 2007

Albany - Dougherty High coach Donald Poole says his Trojans have a lot of areas they need to improve on before the team hits the meat of their region schedule next month.

That is a scary thing if you are Dougherty opponent.

The Trojans have won seven straight including two very impressive wins over Manchester and Effingham County in the Good Life City Classic this past weekend.

Dougherty is led by their all-state guard Brian Bryant who averaged just over 32 points in the holiday tournament.

Head coach Donald Poole knows that it is defense that wins region and state championships. And right now the coach says the Dougherty defense needs more "D".

Poole said "We have to be more consistent with our defense. We have got to stop turning the ball over like we are doing. We are definitely going to work on defense."

Dougherty High will have a lot of time to work on their defense.

The Trojans next game is not until January eighth when they play at Westover.

The Patriots won the first meeting in the season opener back in November.
