Valdosta - South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta has treated its first flu patient of the season.

More than 36 thousand Americans die from flu-related symptoms each year.  Most of those case can be easily prevented with a flu shot.

Hospital administrators say warm weather kept people from getting vaccinated, and they have plenty of the vaccine on hand.

They say now is the best time to get a shot because it takes two weeks to fully kick in and the worst part of the flu season begins in January.
