APD gets new leaders

December 19, 2007

Albany - - Albany's police chief says he's making some changes to strengthen the department.

He plans to bring on two new assistant chiefs.

Chief Younger interviewed nine finalists out of more than 50 applicants for the two Deputy Chief jobs.

The positions replace the current management system in which three majors oversee different divisions within the department.

"We have three divisions - a uniform division, investigative division and support services division and what this facilitates is a higher level of accountability throughout the division," he said.

There will be a total of three deputy chiefs. One works for the police department. The other two will be new to APD.
