Albany - - A cell phone company will not get the green light to build a new tower in a West Albany sub-division.
For the past two years, Alltel has had its eyes on the Doublegate subdivision to build a tower that would expand coverage in that area.
They came up with a hefty proposal to pay the city and Doublegate Country Club to construct the tower.
City commissioners debated the issue for more than two hours Tuesday.
The country club was all for it, but some nearby homeowners worried a tower would hurt their property values.
Commissioners sided with them and encouraged Alltel to find a different site.
