Americus -- After just one season at Darton, Lady Cavaliers pitcher Alex Riccardi is making the jump to a four-year school with Reinhardt College.
Riccardi held her signing ceremony at Southland Monday, where she's the Lady Raiders all-time leader in innings pitched, victories, and strikeouts.
The pitcher makes the move with the blessing of Darton coach David Dews, and will join the Lady Eagles in January for the start of the second semester and beginning of the season.
Riccardi is a stand-out in the classroom as well as on the field, with a 4.0 GPA.
Bringing in a player after just one year of junior-college is rare, and Riccardi says it shows the level of commitment from Reinhardt.
"It makes me feel like my hard work and dedication has paid off," says Riccardi. "I do love softball. I do love to work hard, both in school and on the field. It makes me feel like my hard work has been appreciated."
Lady Eagles head coach Glen Crawford says, "She has a 4.0 in college, which is huge for me, because education comes first. She's a good student in the classroom, and teachable, and she's a good player on the field, and coachable. You get the best of both worlds with her."
Reinhardt begins its softball schedule February 20th against Tennessee-Wesleyan.
