SRH has a date with the wrecking ball

December 18, 2007

Americus-  Nine months after Sumter Regional Hospital was destroyed in a tornado, the building is set for demolition.

Wednesday at noon, the winner of the First Strike Demolition Raffle will take down the first wall of the damaged hospital.

Windows were blown out and wall collapsed when Sumter Regional Hospital took a direct hit from the tornado March first. Demolition was held up until all of the asbestos was removed from the building. Design plans are in the works for a new hospital. Construction on the new building is expected to begin in late 2008.

Sumter Regional Hospital continues to compete for an MRI. With 13 days left to go in the competition the hospital has a lead of more than 82,000 votes over competitors Grant Regional and Lockport.

To cast your vote you can log onto the website at  http://www.winanmri.com/index.php?view=popularity  and vote for SRH daily until December 31st.
