Thomasville-- The normally sweet and gentle horse pulled carriage riders at Thomasville's annual Victorian Christmas for years. The owners are baffled why the horse got spooked and took off while pulling six people in the carriage Thursday night.

It happened right by Thomasville's historic Big Oak tree just a couple of blocks from the downtown festival.  Chief Ellis Jackson of the Thomasville Police Department says, "It began to spook according to the driver and the harness came loose and broke apparently and pulled the driver across the dashboard of the carriage. The horse ran up into the big oak and into a guy wire."

A broken neck and other serious injuries were fatal for the horse. The driver is doing ok. Some other passengers suffered minor injuries, and one woman had a panic attack. They were treated at the scene.
