Tifton -- Tift County Sheriff Gary Vowell and one of his employees are being sued for slander. 50-year old Thomas Gibson filed the suit in Tift Superior Court Wednesday afternoon.
Gibson, a former sheriff's candidate, says when he applied for a job in North Georgia Tift County Sheriff's Major Jack Woolard make disparaging remarks about him to his prospective employer. Gibson said " hopefully this will all be cleared up very shortly. I would like an explanation why it was done to me. This is not only hurting me, it is hurting my family."
Sheriff Gary Vowell says the lawsuit is frivolous. The suit seeks money for damages Gibson said he suffered, but does not say how much.
