Dog burned when its house caught fire

December 11, 2007

Albany-  A dog house is intentionally set on fire in south Albany, burning the small dog chained to it, and now her owner wants those responsible punished.

Firefighters were called to Lillie Green's West Oakridge Drive apartment just before 10:30 Monday night. Her plastic igloo dog house behind her apartment was doused with something and then set on fire.

Patches, Green's Shih-tzu mix was able to get out of the house, but couldn't get far because she was chained. Patches long hair was singed and the Veterinarian says she has burns to her tongue and eye where some accelerant got on the pup.

"Well, we've just been medicating her with an Antibiotic and pain medicine right now, she's wagging her tail and seems happy.," said Dr. Trey Newell, Westover Animal Hospital Vet.

Patches has also been eating and is expected to make a full recovery. Fire investigators plan to question several people in the neighborhood Wednesday morning.
