Albany thieves disrespect the dead

December 5, 2007

Albany -- Thieves struck an Albany cemetery and stole bronze flower vases off graves.  Crown Hill Cemetery workers know at least 13 vases are missing.

They know most of the vases were stolen but are contacting family members to make sure they didn't take their vase to put flowers in. The vases are bronze and worth about $150 dollars.

Cemetery officials think thieves took them to sell for scrap metal. "It's shocking. Especially in Albany, Georgia. You wouldn't think that would happen," said Crown Hill Cemetery President David Stern

Crown Hill Cemetery Officials are contacting scrap metal businesses in the area, asking them to be on the lookout for the flower vases.

They're also asking visitors at the Cemetery to call police if they see suspicious activity.
