Cordele neighbors lead VSU on both sides of football

December 5, 2007

Valdosta - Valdosta State receiver Jeffrey Felton and linebacker William Montford grew up next door to each other.

These childhood neighbors are doing their part to lead the Blazers to a second NCAA Division II national championship.

Jeffrey Felton is second on the VSU offense in receptions but does so much more like blocking.

It was Felton's block that helped spring Sherard Reynolds for his game tying punt return against North Alabama in the southeast regional final.

While his good friend William Montford leads the VSU defense in tackles from his middle linebacker position.

William Montford said "This is just a dream to be able to play with one of my best friends growing up down here in Valdosta. It is a really a blessing."

Jeffrey Felton said  "There are a lot of seniors on the team who have had the chance to make it this far. So, we are just trying to lead the young guys and let them know it is possible. As long as we continue to do the things that we have been doing, we will reach our goal."

Valdosta State plays at California University-Pennsylvania at 11 am Saturday morning on ESPNU.
