Albany -- South Georgia National Guard members are returning to the Middle East.

Members of Georgia's 48th Brigade will be deployed to Afghanistan in the summer of 2009.

Colonel Ken Baldowski said this is an alert notice, that no members of the Guard are being asked to leave their jobs, yet.

He said the 4,000-member unit will train Afghan security forces.

The 48th Brigade was previously deployed for 18 months, most of which was spent in Iraq. They returned in April, 2006.
