Albany -- The American Red Cross is asking businesses to help the community during their company Christmas Parties.

The Southwest Georgia Chapter is asking local businesses and organizations to pass the hat at holiday celebrations, and employees to put in one dollar each. All the money raised will go to disaster relief in Southwest Georgia. Red Cross Board of Directors Kathryn McPhail said "the money will go to families who are displaced by fire or if we had a tornado or had another kind of natural disaster, this money could go to help families displaced."

The Southwest Georgia Chapter of the American Red Cross has responded to more than 60 fires in their 11 county region this year.   So they are asking companies or clubs to pass the hat at Christmas celebrations to help families in the community in need.
