Albany - More than 500 South Georgia athletes compete in Local Winter Olympics in Albany. The athletes kicked off the Special Olympics competition with a banner competition and torch lighting ceremony. The athletes participate in volleyball, basketball and bowling for the winter games at Albany State University.
Seaborn Jackson said, "This culminates the end of the year all the activities the students have been doing. Just a great venture for our students. Everybody is going to be entertained today. The kids are really fired up and ready for today and competition is going to be great."
Before the games kicked off, students and athletes were entertained by Albany State University fraternities and sororities who performed mini-step shows.
