Citizens graduate with a better understanding for APD

November 29, 2007

Albany -- Several dozen people in Albany are helping take back their neighborhoods by learning more about the Albany Police Department.

Thursday night, 36 people including City Manager, Alfred Lott, graduated from the Citizens' Police Academy.

Over the last 12-weeks, they got an inside look at what it takes to be an Albany Police officer.

"This is a very important experience. I think it's a very valuable experience. The citizens here will go out into their communities and have the opportunity to explain what they've experienced. And give their neighbors and people in their neighborhoods and communities a different perspective of the police force," said Albany Police Chief, James Younger.

Thursdays graduation ceremony was dedicated to Justin Cox. The 19-year-old was a member of the class.

He was murdered last month. Two suspects were indicted Wednesday.
