Quitman -  A Brooks County Jailer has found himself on the other side of the law.

FBI agents say a year long undercover investigation led to the arrest of a detention officer working at the Brooks County jail.

They say 21 year-old Kendrick Wade is charged with possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute.  "He was interested in begin a cocaine entrepreneur," says Brooks County Sheriff Richard Chafin.

Chafin says an informant tipped him off that Wade was buying and selling drugs and they caught him in the act.

"We actually took him into custody after he received a kilo of cocaine from an undercover FBI agent," Chafin says.  "We immediately stopped that transaction in it's place and I fired him on the spot."

Wade had worked at the jail for a year. Chafin says it came as a shock to all the officers in the department.

"I've been sheriff here 21 years and this is the first time something like this has taken place and I'm just glad we were able to find out about it and put a stop to it. I hate it for him and I hate that he's made the decision to do what he's done."

Wade was indicted yesterday at the Federal Courthouse in Albany. He's scheduled to make a second appearance December 12th.
