Thomasville-- The Summer Glen Homeowners Association is in the running for a 2008 National Arbor Day Award.  The group was nominated after many of the neighbors go together to plant around 45 trees in a detention pond there.

Elaine Jones, treasurer for the Summer Glen Homeowners Association says, "A group of homeowners got together one Saturday morning, planted our trees. Some of the homeowners as well planted trees in their yard.  And we just wanted to make an environmentally friendly effort to improve our neighborhood."

The trees planted include river birch, sweet bay magnolias and weeping willows.
