Rochelle -- The biggest game in Wilcox County football history was in the mid-eighties, when the Patriots played Lincoln County in the third round of the state playoffs.
The new biggest game in school history will be this Friday night, as Wilcox once again takes on Lincoln County in the state quarterfinals.
The symmetry is not lost on the Patriots players or coaches, as head coach Mark Ledford played in the Big Game against the Red Devils twenty years ago.
The legend of Lincoln County has been around since the 1920's, as the school has won fourteen state titles, including each of the past two years.
The fourteen championships are second only to Valdosta's twenty-one.
Wilcox County has never advanced beyond the state quarterfinals, and lost the Big Game to the Devils the first time they played it, but coach Ledford says his team is not concerned with the past.
"We don't get into the tradition of someone else we're playing," says Ledford. "I can't hide the fact that they are Lincoln County, but we just want to get a chance to show that we're worthy."
The Patriots will have that chance Friday night at 8pm in Roswell.
