Americus - Albany State used a balanced scoring attack and some cold GSW free throw shooting down the stretch to beat the Hurricanes 83-78 Monday night at GSW's Convocation Hall.
Antonio Steele led the Rams with 18 points.
He was one of four Albany State players to score in double figures.
Tryone Evans had 16, James Clark added 15 points and Scheraun King scored 14 points for the Rams.
Georgia Southwestern guard Anthony Sargent led all scorers with 34 points.
Sargent scored 17 in each half for the Canes whose other scoring threat Aaron Wyatt was held to just nine points.
Georgia Southwestern led by four at halftime but an 11-2 Albany State run tied the game 70-70 in the second half.
The Hurricanes missed four key foul shots down the stretch.
Albany State (1-1) opens SIAC play Thursday night at LeMoyne-Owen.
Georgia Southwestern begins their second season in the Peach Belt Wednesday against Columbus State in the Storm Dome.
