Valdosta -- The Valdosta baseball program sent two players to the next level Monday, as first-team all-region players Earl Daniels and Galen Smith have signed to play college baseball.
Both of the teammates will remain in the Peach State next year.
Daniels will play for Dave Perno at Georgia, and is looking to earn a starting spot in the infield as a freshman.
The Bulldogs have signed six players from the National "Top 100" list in the Class of 2009.
Smith is ready to attend Georgia College and State in Milledgeville, and will handle the catching duties for the traditionally strong Division II team.
The Bobcats have been to the NCAA playoffs seven-times, including each of the past two years. Both Smith and Daniels say they were looking for a strong program with the opportunity to play.
Daniels says, "I just want to play a big role, and come in hard and strong as a freshman. Do the best I can, and help the team win."
Smith adds, "They're a pretty successful baseball program, and they're always among the elite in Division II, so it's pretty exciting."
Smith and Daniels begin their senior season with Valdosta February 25th in the Cook County Classic.
