Police search for driver of hit and run

November 26, 2007

Albany--Dougherty County police are currently on the look out for a man who fled the scene of an accident they say he caused on Sylvester Road this morning.

The accident happened around 7:30 AM near the Fast Lane gas station.  According to police, a young, hispanic man driving a green, Chevy Lumina pulled out onto Sylvester Road from Pine Bluff Road and into oncoming traffic.

He then hit the driver's side of Trina Cassell's 2001 white, Ford Expedition causing her to hit a utility poll head on, snapping it into.

Fortunately, the 40-year-old walked away without any injuries. She was headed toward Sylvester when the accident happened and was the only person inside the SUV.

Several witnesses said that, after the accident, the driver of that Chevy Lumina pulled over and parked his car just a few feet away from the gas station before fleeing into the woods behind the business.

Police are searching the woods for the driver. His car has no registered license tag.

Witnesses say the hispanic man was last seen wearing a black sweater along with black pants and a black pair of shoes.

If you have any information about this driver's whereabouts, you're asked to call Dougherty County police at 430-6600.
