Robert's High School Football Picks November 23, 2007

November 21, 2007

The first round of the state playoffs produced some upsets but I was prepared and with only eight losses in 30 games so I feel like last week was a winner.  The games get bigger as we get deeper in the playoffs and the picks are harder.

Douglass at Lowndes -  The Vikings will not have as easy time with the Astros as they did last week with Windsor-Forest. But the Vikings are in the quarterfinals....Lowndes 36-23

Valdosta at M.L. King -   Did anyone notice that the three teams from region 1-AAAAA all won in shutouts last week.  I did.  The Wildcats have a great defense..Valdosta  17-7

Coffee at Newnan -  The Trojans are a sleeper in their bracket.  A good team with a solid defense also..Coffee  29-14

Whitewater at Thomas Co. Central - The visiting Wildcats won their first ever playoff game last week.  That game was at home.  This week they are on the road and the Jackets are on a mission..  Thomas County Central  45-27

Bainbridge at Fayette Co. -  The Bearcats to their credit never quit.  Down 14-0 to Statesboro,  Bainbridge rallied to win.  Fayette County is unbeaten and at home... doesn't matter.. Bainbridge 28-10

Shaw at Cairo -  A matchup worthy of the Georgia Dome takes place in the second round.  Shaw beat Peach County 40-0 last week but I wonder if the Raiders were taking out some frustration from last year's state championship game.  Syrupmakers haven't made it out of the second round in seven years and I think they will be motivated for the Raiders..Cairo 14-13

Monroe at Carver-Coumbus -  The Tornadoes get the pleasure of playing the number one ranked Tigers who have two players ready to go to Auburn next year.  Monroe can make a game of it but I think the Tigers have too much at home...Carver 34-15

Westover at Henry County -  The Patriots shocked everyone not so much with their win at Thomson but the fact they won a defensive battle.  Henry County is loaded with offense. Warhawks were down 24-0 at half to Harris County and scored four touchdowns in the second half.   That is impressive in 24 minutes of play...The Patriots have a run game to control the clock and that is what they will do...Westover 27-21

Worth Co. at Perry -   The Rams maybe the hottest team in any classification not only in wins but the points they are scoring.   Worth County fans may thank Perry is easy pickings since they lost to Dougherty.  The Panthers quarterback Casey Hayward was recovering from a fractured hand in September. His hand is healthy and so are the Panthers who beat LaGrange last week.  I believe the Rams though are poised for a run to the Dome..Worth County 36-35

Savannah Christian at Thomasville - The Bulldogs have not made it past the second round of the state playoffs in 14 years.  The streak ends Friday... Thomasville 27-7

Fitzgerald at Charlton Co. -   These two former region rivals now battle for a spot in the quarterfinals.  it is ironic that in 2004 and 2005 Fitzgerald beat Charlton County for the region title and the Indians went on to win the state title.  The winner of this slugfest is likely looking at quarterfinal game with #1 Buford...What a bracket...Charlton County 22-21

Cook at Dodge Co. - I didn't have the guts to pick the Hornets at Swainsboro because the points they have given up.   The problem for Hornet opponents is Cook's offense is scoring more points.. Dodge County went five games without allowing a single point... Something has to give....Cook  28-19

Schley Co. at Clinch Co. - The Wildcats are enjoying their best season in school history but the Panthers are primed for another deep run...Clinch County 26-20

Dooly Co. at Emanuel Co. Institute -  The Bobcats have one mission Friday night. Stop ECI's Washaun Ealey who only scored six touchdowns against Seminole County last week.  Dooly County has a good defense but Mr. Ealey made a believer out of me last week...ECI  20-14

Miller Co. at Wilcox Co. -  Patriots beat the Pirates in the first game of the season. I know Miller County has gotten better since the last week of August but I don't think they have improved that much... Wilcox Co.  33-22

Deerfield-Windsor at Tattnall Square -  The Trojans are unbeaten and defending state champions and scored 45 points against the Knights in a regular season meeting. Deerfield-Windsor will be ready on D but I don't think it will be enough.. Tattnall Square 34-28

Brookwood at Trinity Christian - This game is not for the AA state championship but the winner is the clear favorite next week.  Brookwood learned last year they can play with the Crusaders and from what I am hear the Warriors can stay on the field with most AAA teams... Brookwood 35-27

Windsor at Tiftarea - The young Panthers got a big overtime win to host the semifinal game.  Windsor's experience may be too much..Windsor 13-12

Terrell Academy at Thomas Jefferson - The Eagles spread offense scored 49 points last week. Thomas Jefferson is unbeaten, defending state champions and are playing at home..Thomas Jefferson  37-27

Flint River at Westwood - The Wildcats made a big comeback to beat John Hancock last week.  Flint River finished second to Thomas Jefferson last year and I think they will get a rematch with the Jaguars... Flint River 29-18
