Valdosta - With the touch of a button, the holiday season is officially underway in Valdosta.
Mayor John Fretti lit the city's giant Christmas tree Wednesday afternoon in front of City Hall.
In doing so it turned on all the other lights and decorations throughout Valdosta.
While the celebration at City Hall was small, he says everyone can come out an celebrate the holidays during the city's annual Jingle Bell Festival.
"We want everyone to come out to shop, dine and enjoy fellowship and the culmination of it is the parade," Mayor Fretti says.
The Jingle Bell Festival will be held all day on Saturday December 1 in Downtown Valdosta.
The Bainbridge Public Safety Department brought two firetrucks to the Oscar Jackson Outdoor camp for kids.
The Dougherty County School System will host a three-day orientation for teachers new to the system starting on Thursday.
