Local athletes sign college scholarships

Albany - Deerfield-Windsor's T.J. Mitchell is ready to swing with the number one ranked Georgia golf team.

Mitchell signed his grant-in aid Monday with the Bulldogs.

T.J. Mitchell is a three time GISA all-state player who had the second lowest score for the Knights when they won the GISA state title in May.

One of the top junior golfers in the state, T.J. Mitchell has played with several current members of the Georgia golf team which helped him get his scholarship.

T.J. Mitchell said "I know them real well. They had some good words to put in for me. That is one of the reasons I got in. They just have unbelievable talent."

Lee County pitcher Gray Carden is contiuning his family's tradition of great baseball players.

Carden signed a scholarship with Division II Wingate University in North Carolina.

Gray Carden comes from a family of pitchers but Wingate is planning on him to pitch an play the outfield.

Carden made three starts last season for the Lee County baseball team and has played for a traveling team for the last four years.

Gray is one 11 players off that traveling team to sign a college scholarship.
