Dawgs beat Cats on senior day

November 17, 2007

Athens -- Running back Knowshon Moreno ran for 124 yards, and joined Herschel Walker as the only UGA freshmen to rush for at least 100 yards in five-straight games, as the 8th-ranked Bulldogs beat #22 Kentucky 24-13.

The thirteen points is the lowest total for the Wildcats this season.

Georgia will be rooting for Kentucky next week, as a win by the Cats against Tennessee sends the Bulldogs into the SEC title game against LSU.

UGA is now 6-2 in conference play despite four turnovers in the win against Kentucky.

"Every game is not going to be perfect," says quarterback Matthew Stafford. "We'd been clicking pretty good on offense, and we're just happy to get a win."

Senior Kelin Johnson blocked a punt on senior day, and says this years Georgia team is very close-knit.

"When we make a stop, and the offense score, the defense is out there cheering for them," says Johnson. "We're the best cheerleaders they have, to be honest with you."

Thomas Brown ran for 73 yards and a touchdown in his last game between the hedges.

"It kind of hit me going out there for senior day, this is going to be my last time walking into Sanford Stadium as a player, but it's great to go out on top," says Brown.

Head coach Mark Richt is hoping for a shot at another SEC title.

"It's been wonderful to this point," says Richt. "We've still got more games to play, but out Southeastern Conference regular season is done. We hope to get to play again."

The Bulldogs play at Georgia Tech Saturday at 3:45 pm.
