Nine arrested in Albany prostitute sting

November 16, 2007

Albany --Nine women are arrested in an Albany prostitution sting. And Dougherty Sheriff's Investigators say they could have arrested a whole lot more but they didn't have enough officers to handle them.

Sheriff's Investigators sent an undercover deputy into three areas and as soon as he showed up, the accused prostitutes began flagging him down. Five women were arrested in the 800 block of Highland Avenue near the Royal Inn.

Three were arrested at Mimosa Trailer Park in East Albany and another arrested a block away.

Captain Craig Dodd of the Dougherty Co. Sheriff's Office said  prostitution is not a victim less crime.  Dodd said  "most of these women carry some sort of disease. Most are drug addicts. Most of the men who pick up prostitutes are either married or they live with a woman. And they are taking this disease to their wives, who have no idea what they are doing."

Dougherty County Sheriff's Investigators say next, they'll run a sting to catch the men who hire the hookers.
