Albany - - Starting Friday, you may hear a familiar sound of the holidays at area stores.

The Salvation Army will kick off its Red Kettle Campaign in the morning. Volunteers will stand by their red kettles ringing their bells to raise money to support the Salvation Army's shelter and feeding programs.

Organizers hope you'll give now because they don't ask for donations any other time of year.

"People don't realize that is our only major public fundraiser. That is the only time we go out and solicit funds in the public for our work here and it's such an important time," says Captain Douglas McClure.

The campaign kicks off Friday morning at the Albany Mall. You'll also see the ringers at Walmart and at some grocery stores too.

They hope to raise $80,000  this year. The Salvation Army is looking for volunteers.

If you'd like to help out, call 435-1428 to sign up.
