Albany - When the Albany State basketball season started, fans had to wonder why Chris Cameron was still the interim head coach after Cameron led the Golden Rams to the SIAC title in the spring.
Fans can stop wondering.
Albany State announced Thursday Chris Cameron is the permanent head coach for the Albany State men's basketball team.
It was what Cameron's former boss John I. Davis had in mind when he hired the former Dougherty and Tulane standout as his top assistant six years ago.
Besides winning on the court, Cameron and Albany State's Fast Break Club have started a fund raising campagin to boost scholarships, recruiting and other areas.
Cameron says the biggest boost for the Rams basketball program is that Albany State no longer has an interim head coach.
Chris Cameron said "Now we can just focus on playing basketball and everybody getting better. We have a young team and they know I am going to be here. They are going to be here and we can work on some of the things we want to try to accomplish for this coming season."
Albany State opens their basketball season Monday night at Xavier University in New Orleans.
