Robert's High School Football Picks November 16, 2007

November 14, 2007

The playoffs are here and that makes the selections difficult since our teams will be facing teams from outside the area.   The last week of the regular season was very good with a 25-5 record and for the season we are 123-32.  I hope the winning percentage is that good in five weeks.   Are you ready for the second season?

Windsor Forest at Lowndes -  The Vikings road to a third state title in the last four years will not be easy with Douglass, North Cobb, Roswell and Norcross all on the Lowndes side of the bracket.  No offense to Windsor Forest but they will serve as a good tuneup before the competition gets tougher...Lowndes 49-13

Bradwell Institute at Valdosta - Rick Tomberlin was not happy (and rightly so) when his Wildcats had to play ten straight weeks while most of his region teams had two weeks to prepare to face his team.  The advantage now turns to Valdosta who have had two weeks to get ready for the postseason.  And I hate to look ahead coach T but the Cats have a good shot to make it to the Dome...Valdosta  41-6

Coffee at Jenkins -  The Trojans needed some last second heroics to beat Houston County last week.  That suggests that Coffee was not taking the last place Bears seriously.   That will not be the cast this week...Coffee  35-7

Tift Co. at Camden Co. -  1-AAAAA scored a first round sweep last year and for that streak to continue the Blue Devils will have to knock off Camden County.  I know the Wildcats are not tested at all in their region schedule but Lowndes and Valdosta know Gilman Stadium is never easy.   The Blue Devils are used to hostile enviroments...Tift County 24-7

Brunswick at Thomas County Central -  The third ranked Yellow Jackets enter the playoffs unbeaten for just the second time in school history.  The first was in 1997 which was the last of the TCC's five state titles in the 1990's.   I think the Jackets are the darkhorse in this classification with everyone picking Northside and Tucker... Thomas County Central  48-26

Statesboro at Bainbridge -  The challenge for the Bearcats is to forget last week's loss to Thomas County Central.   The Blue Devils won a state championship two years ago and are still a formidable opponent even on the road...  Statesboro 25-22

Lee Co. at Evans -  Lee County ended the regular season on a great note with a win over Americus-Sumter.  I think the Trojans can push Evans but the Knights will prevail in the end...Evans 34-27

Americus-Sumter at Ware County -  Ware County coach Dan Ragle faces half his former team in the first round.   Ragle left before the city and county schools consolidated.  The Panthers under Mark Wilson have not looked like the same team since their second half collapse to Bainbridge.  I don't know if coach Wilson can get the Panthers back on track with a trip to the Swamp looming..Ware County 27-20

Benedictine at Cairo -  After blowing through the region schedule, Cairo opens the playoffs against a Benedictine team that is not to be overlooked. The Cadets have a long tradition of great football but then again so do the Syrupmakers...Cairo 26-0

Cross Creek at Monroe -  The Tornadoes looked like the Monroe team we were expecting in their season finale win over rival Dougherty.  A victory that has put the swagger back in the Tornadoes.  Monroe will need that confidence because the Razorbacks from Augusta look they are a good team with a tough defense which means the Tornadoes will need to take care of the football...Monroe 20-19

Westover at Thomson -  The Patriots are back in the playoffs and heading back to the place where they posted their one and only state playoff victory to date.  Westover has the offense to win this game but the defense has to regroup after last week's performance against Worth County.. Thomson 34-30

Worth Co. at Burke Co. -  The Rams enter the playoffs on a roll with three straight wins.  Worth County has shown an explosive offense and a very tough defense.  They have Cinderella written all over them but I don't know if they are mature enough to win in very hostile enviroment in Waynesboro....  I think the Rams can,, I think the rams can..Worth Co. 28-26

Laney at Thomasville -  The Bulldogs have won eight straight but have had their problems in the playoffs with just one postseason win since 2000.   This year's team is different..Thomasville  35-14

Screven Co. at Fitzgerald - The Purple Hurricanes are vowing to avoid the letdown they had last year when they were beaten in the first round.  That is good because Screven County has a good football team... Fitzgerald 24-23

Early Co. at Jefferson Co. -  The Bobcats made it to the Dome by winning two games on the road last year.    Jefferson County is a good team but I think the Bobcats speed will once again work to their advantage...Early County 34-29

Cook at Swainsboro -  The Hornets have been playing in the shadow of the big three in their region.  The one thing I have learned is that Cook has a good offense which they will need against a Swainsboro team that has allowed ten or more points just twice this season..Swainsboro 32-31

Claxton at Clinch Co. -   The Panthers are always a contender for the Class A title and their road to state gets off to a good start... Clinch Co. 37-19

Schley Co. at Johnson Co. - Jim McFather's Wildcats have had a big season with eight wins and a playoff berth.  But when you make it to the state playoffs from region two, you are good.  Johnson County  14-6

Seminole Co. at ECI -  The Indians are the 4th seed to be worried about.  Seminole County had Clinch County beaten until quarterback Bacari Rambo was bothered by cramps in the second half.  Rambo is healthy and the Indians are a united team after a season of ups and downs..Seminole Co.... 27-26

Dooly Co. at Pacelli -  The Bobcats hangover from the Wilcox County loss almost cost them a trip to the state playoffs.  Dooly County better have the Patriots out of their system because the Vikings are a good team...Dooly Co....34-16

Chattahoochee Co. at Wilcox Co. -  The Patriots are probably eyeing a probable quarterfinal game with Lincoln County.   Chattahoochee County can score some points but they will not keep pace with the Dennards...Wilcox County 48-20

Bryan Co. at Miller Co. -   The Pirates get a first round game at home and I think that will be to their advantage..Miller Co.  20-12

Irwin Co. at Brookstone -  You know I like teams from region 2-A and I like a first round sweep...Irwin County 27-24

Atkinson Co. at Savannah Country Day -  The Rebels great season has hit a slump with two losses to close the regular season.  I don't see Atco getting back on track..SCD 22-18

George Walton at Deerfield-Windsor -  The Knights are coming off a tough loss on the road that cost them a region championship.  Deerfield-Windsor won by a field goal in their first game of the season when the Knights scored a season low 17 points.  Their offense is a lot better in November than it was in August...Deerfield-Windsor 38-32

Piedmont at Brookwood -  The unbeaten Warriors are drawing rave reviews from everyone they have played and a probable semifinal game against Trinity Christian next week just might be for the AA state title...Brookwood 41-16

Tiftarea at Holy Spirit Prep -  The Panthers had to win a Monday playoff just to get into state and will only have three days to get ready for their first round game.. That should be enough...Tiftarea 26-14

John Hancock at Westwood -  The Wildcats are region champions and will get to play at home..Westwood  22-14

Nathanael Greene at Terrell Academy - The Eagles face a Nathanael Greene team that has scored alot of points this season and have given up a lot as well..Terrell Academy 44-27
