The Division II football playoffs have been set, with both Albany State and Valdosta State getting an invitation.
The 5th-seeded Rams go on the road this week, and will face #4 Catawba in Salisbury, North Carolina.
The 10-1 Indians are champions of the South Atlantic Conference, but Albany State will be well rested.
ASU head coach Mike White says, "This will be brand-new for us, similar to last year with Newberry. It's the same conference, and we just have to play good football this week. I think the week off helped us out a lot, and I expect us to play well Saturday."
Valdosta State received the top-seed they were looking for, and get a bye into the second round. T
he Blazers are the number-one team in the Southeast division, and will host the winner of the Albany State - Catawba game November 24th.
ASU is the only team invited from the SIAC, while #2 North Alabama and #3 Delta State join VSU from the Gulf South Conference.
"You just gotta do what you gotta do in the playoffs," says White. "You have to play well. They're a high-scoring team. The defense is going to have to play well, we're going to have to put some points on the board, and can't make any mistakes."
Kick-off for Albany State and Catawba is scheduled for noon on Saturday.
The Division II championship game is December 15th in Florence, Alabama.
