Lee County-- The recent cold snap no doubt has many South Georgians lighting up their fireplaces for the first time this season. This years Persistant dry conditions has some fireplace owners concerned about increased cracking in their chimneys, but local chimney sweepers say it is hard to blame cracking on just the dry conditions alone, and say anytime you have too much or too little moisture problems can occur.

"As far as pointing the finger at cracks, I have been repairing a lot of them, but I can't really say  that it is absolutely because of the drought" said Chimney sweeper Harry Robertson. fireplace owners are advised to have their chimneys looked at annually, especially if they are used on a frequent basis.
