Hotel business up

November 7, 2007

Albany - Hotel/motel business in Albany is up 8% this year. Events like Albany States Homecoming attract overnight visitors.

The hotel tax all these visitors pay means you get a small break on your taxes. "The tourism dollars that they bring in," said Lisa Riddle, "they come in spending in the hotels, eating in the restaurants, shopping, that creates tax relief and the tax relief saves us money that Dougherty County citizens would have to pay if these people weren't coming here."

The Convention and Visitors Bureau says new events to Albany, like the Snickers Marathon Bar Marathon, contribute to the increase in hotel room stays.
