A great bounce back last week with a 13-3 record in the big matchups and 22-5 for the week. That brings the season total to 88-27 over the last four weeks. The final week of the regular season is going to be tough with several big region games. Lets get started
Worth Co. at Westover
Perhaps the two hottest teams in this part of the state square off in a must win game for the Rams. A Worth County win clinches a state playoff berth. A Rams loss then leaves Worth County needing Monroe to beat Dougherty in order for the Rams to make the state playoffs. I am afraid the Rams will be Monroe fans Saturday...Westover 26-25
Dougherty vs Monroe (Saturday)
The defending region champions are reeling and in danger of missing the state playoffs. Monroe can finish anywhere from second to out of the playoffs if they lose to Dougherty and Worth County defeats Westover. A Patriot win Friday puts Monroe in the playoffs regardless of Saturday's outcome. Dougherty's mission is simple win and you are in.
Easier said than done against the Torndoes...Monroe 29-18
The Trojans are pulling for Worth County and Monroe wants Westover to win Friday because a Patriots victory puts the Tornadoes in the playoffs while Dougherty needs a Worth County win and a win themselves over their cross-town rivals to make the playoffs. the biggest mystery is how has Monroe gone from a team that looked like it would at least finish second in this region to on the verge of not making the state playoffs. Tornadoes will not need to worry about Friday's game...Monroe 33-26
Thomas Co. Central at Bainbridge
This game is for the 1-AAAA region title. The Bearcats are riding a six game winning streak including coming back from a 21 point deficit at Americus-Sumter two weeks ago. Bainbridge is going to need that confidence to beat a Thomas County Central that has won eight games by 14 points or more. Thomas County Central has had a week off and before that coach Ed Pilcher has been resting key players to make sure they are ready for the postseason. And the Jackets say that starts Friday in Bainbridge.. Thomas County Central 35-20
Colquitt Co. at Tift Co.
Tift Co. coach Jay Walls has done another unbelievable coaching job to get his team in contention for the playoffs after so many injuries. Blue Devils clinch a playoff berth with a win or a Warner Robins loss to Lowndes. Devils take care of business...Tift County 24-7
Lowndes at Warner Robins
The Vikings have already clinched the region title but haven't forgotten a loss to Warner Robins kept them out of the playoffs last year. Revenge is the word this week for the Vikings..Lowndes 34-13
Early Co. at Thomasville
The red hot Bulldogs snapped a six game November losing streak last week at Randolph-Clay. The bad news is if they lose to the Bobcats and Fitzgerald wins at Brooks County, the Bulldogs drop to third in the region standings and will be on the road next week. The Bobcats spread offense gives them the best chance at beating a Bulldog defense that is as good as you will see in the state. Bulldogs are playing at home and I think that is the difference here.. Thomasville 29-27
Fitzgerald at Brooks Co.
The Purple Hurricanes are back on the road for a third time in four weeks and this is a trap game. Brooks County is out of the playoffs and this is their final game of the season and Ryan Branch will have his Trojans ready to play. Brooks County makes it close but Purple Hurricanes will prevail..Fitzgerald 36-19
Seminole Co. at Calhoun Co.
The Cougars can make the playoffs with a win over the Indians. It has been a disappointing season for Seminole with injuries and having to forfeit two games for using an ineligible player. It would be nice to see the Cougars in the state playoffs but the Indians showed at Homerville they are not a team you want to see come knocking next week..Seminole Co. 30-13
Lanier Co. at Miller Co.
The Bulldogs will miss the playoffs but they are a dangerous team after their win over Atkinson County. Miller County is coming off a tough loss at Clinch and the Pirates better be ready for they too could fall to the Bulldogs..Miller Co. 19-14
Deerfield-Windsor at First Presbyterian
The winner gets the GISA AAA South region title and homefield advantage in all three games of the playoffs. The Knights have shown week in and week out they are one of the best teams in AAA with their three headed backfield...Deerfield-Windsor 34-32
Brookwood at Southwest Georgia
Brookwood can win the region title and finish the season unbeaten with a win at Damascus. Southwest Georgia Academy can win the region title or force a playoff for the region crown with a win. SGA is tough at home but Brookwood is as good as their record...Brookwood 37-26
Valwood at Tiftarea
Both of these teams need to win this game and need Brookwod to beat SGA for their playoff hopes. If Brookwood wins, Tiftarea clinches a playoff berth while a Valwood victory forces a three-way playoff for second place. SGA's passing game hurt the Valiants which is bad news for a Panther team that makes its living running the football... Valwood 22-18
Westwood at Robert Toombs
The Wildcats can force a three way tie by beating the Crusaders in Lyons. Robert Toombs doesn't lose often at home but I think they will this week...Westwood 20-13
Coffee vs Houston Co.
Americus-Sumter at Lee Co.
Cairo at Crisp Co.
Randolph-Clay at Albany (Thursday)
Cook vs Mitchell Co.
Clinch Co. at Terrell Co.
Atkinson Co. vs Bacon Co.
Wilcox Co. vs Wheeler Co.
Dooly Co. vs Treutlen
Irwin Co. at Telfair Co.
Hawkinsville at Johnson Co.
Turner Co. vs Montgomery Co.
Schley Co. vs Chattahoochee Co.
Westfield vs Sherwood Christian
Pinewood Christian at Southland
Terrell Academy vs Randolph-Southern
Fullington vs Crisp Academy
See you next week in the playoffs...
