Darton cross country team running for respect in NJCAA meet

November 6, 2007

Albany - Darton College coach David Mann could not ask for a better start for his Cavalier cross-country team.

The Lady Cavalier teams won the region title in their first season and the Darton men finished third.

The Lady Cavs region title earns them a trip to the nationals where coach Mann is hoping his team can finish in the top 20 and his top two runners Brittany Skiles and Tabitha Payne can earn them All-American honors by finishing 15th or higher.

David Mann really wants to bring home from the national meet is respect for his young program that is still be overlooked in the national polls.

David Mann said "The races we have run this year have been on such tough terrain the times we have put in don't match the times in other areas. Now, we are going out there and running with them. Our goal is try to get in the top 20 and bring some attention to our region."

Darton's David Marley did qualify as an individual for the men's cross country meet.

Both National Junior College cross country meets are Saturday in Rend Lake, Illinois.
