Albany - More than a million dollars will soon be released into the economy in Dougherty County from Christmas Club accounts set up at local credit unions. Doco Federal Credit union sent out close to a million dollars last week to members enrolled in Christmas Club accounts.

Chris Payne, Vice President of operations says setting up an account early in the year helps folks like you better prepare for Christmas shopping and benefits local retailers. He said, "The reason it's a good idea for individuals is because it allows them to put away a little bit of money back each week or each month in this account and that way when the Christmas spending season comes along the don't quite feel the need to go out and borrow money."

Artesian Credit Union says its members saved more than a quarter million dollars in Christmas club accounts. They should receive those checks this week.
