Albany -- A strange crime in one West Albany neighborhood. Residents woke up to find their mailboxes gone.

About a dozen metal mailboxes from Bellingham Lane were stolen sometime Saturday night.

One resident discovered that their mail box was missing on their way to church Sunday morning.

One of their neighbors discovered the same thing and found his mail scattered all over the lawn.

"We were just shocked. We were surprised because nothing like that has ever happened down here, even if it is small, cause it's a small item. But it does worry us because we were all home. And the other thing is they could have taken off with the cars," said Leon Modeste

Albany police say that mailbox vandalism is on the rise, but has never happened in that neighborhood.
