Albany - - An Albany inmate tries to escape from custody while getting medical care Friday.
He didn't get too far.
A Lee County jailer saw him running away from nurses and she took action.
It happened at Phoebe Hospital around 3 this afternoon.
Investigators say Greg Barfield was getting medical attention at the hospital when he decided to try and get away.
Lee County Jailer Stephanie Peek happened to be in the area and saw him.
That's when she rushed the inmate, tackled him, and put him in handcuffs.
"She was the closest person. She jumps up and helps get him under control and found out he had escaped custody. It's just a matter of being in the right place at the right time," says Col. Duane Sapp.
Peek has only been with the Lee County jail for four months.
Colonel Duane Sapp says the new jailer did a good job stepping in to help a fellow law enforcer and protect the public.
