Thomasville-- Thomas county schools head nurse, Terry Matthews says since the beginning of the school year 6 of their students have been diagnosed with antibiotic resistant staph infections.

"We have had a few more cases than we'd like to see but they're being treated, the children have done well they've responded well to the treatment, no one was hospitalized. Everyone has healed well and they're back in school," says Matthews.

Since the infections all of the schools in the system increased precautions. Dispensers with hand-sanitizer were placed in cafeterias for children to use and teachers, coaches and custodians have increased cleaning practices.

Right now one student in the Thomas county school system has staph but it is not MRSA.
